Maruti Suzuki has reengineered its popular Celerio hatchback, now equipping every variant with six airbags as a default feature, and with prices hiked.

This sweeping upgrade, effective immediately, marks a shift for the automaker, aligning with growing consumer demands for robust safety tech in budget-friendly vehicles. Previously limited to dual airbags, the Celerio’s enhanced safety suite positions it as a frontrunner in its segment, signaling a potential ripple effect across Maruti’s lineup.

Balancing Safety and Affordability

While the safety boost is a win for buyers, the Celerio’s revamp comes with recalibrated price tags. The top-tier ZXi+ AMT variant now commands Rs. 32,500 more, while entry-level LXi MT and mid-spec ZXi trims see a Rs. 27,500 hike.

The VXi AMT variant climbs by Rs. 21,000, and CNG-powered models inch up by Rs. 16,000. Interestingly, the ZXi AMT variant defies the trend, retaining its original cost. Post-adjustment, the Celerio’s ex-showroom prices span Rs. 5.64 lakh to Rs. 7.37 lakh, reflecting a delicate balance between enhanced protection and accessibility.

This dual move underscores Maruti’s strategy to cater to safety-conscious buyers without alienating budget-focused shoppers. Industry analysts predict the six-airbag mandate could soon extend to other models, reshaping perceptions of the brand’s commitment to safety.
