The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 PM on December 16, 2025, sending local authorities into a scramble. The vehicle, a black Mahindra Thar with registration number NL-01/CA-8181, reportedly entered the railway premises from the MXN side. It traveled along the tracks towards the main station platform before becoming hopelessly stranded on Line No. 1, specifically near the old flyover area in Burma Camp.
Police Interception and Driver Identity
Upon receiving an emergency alert, the Dimapur Police, in a swift joint operation with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), rushed to the spot. The driver was identified as Thepfuneituo (65), a resident of Signal Angami, Dimapur.
Authorities successfully intercepted the vehicle and managed to remove it from the tracks before any oncoming train traffic could result in a catastrophic collision. Fortunately, no injuries to the public or damage to railway infrastructure were reported during the recovery process.

The Dimapur Police have taken both the vehicle and the driver into custody. A formal case has been registered at the RPF Station, Dimapur (Case No. 346/2025). The accused faces serious charges under the following sections of the Railways Act:

Investigation Into Possible Intoxication
While the motive behind driving a 4×4 SUV onto a high-security railway zone remains unclear, preliminary inquiries by the police suggest “gross negligence” and a total disregard for safety norms.
A senior official stated, “An investigation is currently underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether alcohol or any other intoxicating substance was involved at the time of the offense.”

Videos of the Mahindra Thar stuck on the Dimapur railway tracks have flooded social media platforms, drawing sharp criticism from netizens over the lack of civic sense and the danger posed to hundreds of passengers.
In a public advisory issued following the arrest, the Dimapur Commissionerate of Police strongly cautioned citizens that unauthorized entry onto railway tracks is a non-bailable offense. “Such reckless actions not only endanger the individual involved but also put passengers and critical national infrastructure at grave risk,” the statement read.
