Pune News, July 06, 2025: A massive power outage has plunged Pune’s bustling Hinjawadi IT Park and MIDC areas into darkness for over nine hours, leaving residents and businesses struggling with prolonged disruptions. The blackout, caused by a critical failure in a MahaTransco power line, has affected thousands of consumers since Sunday afternoon.
What Caused the Blackout?
The crisis began after scheduled maintenance work on the 220 kV Infosys to 220 kV Pegasus underground line by the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MahaTransco). While the maintenance was completed by 1 PM, a sudden breakdown occurred during power restoration at 2:10 PM, cutting off electricity to 91 high-voltage and 12,000 low-voltage consumers in the region.
The outage has severely impacted key areas, including:
- Hinjawadi IT Park
- MIDC industrial zone
- Raisoni Park (partially)
- Dohler Company
- Wipro Circle
Major corporate consumers like Infosys and Nextra also faced disruptions, raising concerns over operational losses.
Emergency Restoration Efforts Underway
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has deployed emergency measures to restore power through alternative routes. Officials confirmed diverting 63 MW of load to other lines to minimize downtime.
An MSEDCL spokesperson stated, “Our teams are working on war footing to resolve the issue. We urge consumers to bear with us as we restore supply through backup arrangements.”
Residents and Societies Exhaust Backup Power
With the outage stretching beyond 9 hours, many residential societies have reportedly exhausted their backup generator capacities. Residents expressed frustration over the prolonged disruption, questioning whether the failure was anticipated.
