Maharashtra’s school students will commence their new academic year on June 16, as per fresh directives issued by the state’s School Education Department. While the official summer vacation starts on May 2, this year’s break will be shorter and academically structured, thanks to new guidelines aiming to maintain educational continuity.

The vacation period, applicable to primary, secondary, and higher secondary students affiliated with the Maharashtra State Board, will last from May 2 to June 15. However, students won’t be entirely free from academic responsibilities during this time.

To keep students engaged, schools are instructed to conduct learning sessions via the “NIPUN Maharashtra” app, which supports both online and offline modes. Parents must register their mobile numbers on the app to enable their children’s access to these structured learning activities.

In Vidarbha, where high summer temperatures pose a health risk, schools will run morning shifts from June 23 to June 28, operating between 7:00 AM and 11:45 AM. Regular school timings will resume from June 30.

The directive was jointly issued by Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, and Dr. Shriram Panzade, Director of Secondary Education. The instructions have been circulated to divisional education officers and inspectors to ensure compliance throughout the state.

This academic shift marks a significant move to standardize the school calendar across Maharashtra, introducing a more consistent and learning-focused summer break. Though students still get holidays, the inclusion of educational activities makes the vacation more structured than in previous years.
