Maharashtra Weather: State Sizzles as Temperatures Soar, IMD Issues Heat Wave Alert; Rain Likely in Some Areas
Pune: Maharashtra is experiencing a significant spike in daytime temperatures, with the mercury crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark in parts of Vidarbha. Weather experts have issued a heat wave warning for several districts and predict a shift to humid conditions in the coastal regions over the weekend.
Akola sizzled as the hottest location in the state on March 07, recording a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius. The heat was intense across the region, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showing a marked rise in the mercury.
According to Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the weather forecasting division at IMD Pune, a heat wave is very likely to grip isolated pockets of Akola, Amravati, and Wardha over the next 48 hours. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat.
Meanwhile, Pune continues to see a wide variation between day and night temperatures. While the city recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at a cool 15.9°C, the afternoons are turning increasingly hot. The Shivajinagar observatory, located at Lohegaon, recorded a high of 38.5°C yesterday. Kashyapi added that Pune’s maximum temperature is expected to climb further, touching 38 to 39 degrees Celsius this week.
Coastal Areas to Witness Humidity
A different kind of discomfort awaits residents of the Konkan region. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad around March 9.
Rain Relief in Sight?
There might be some respite for the rest of the state later next week. Kashyapi noted that a wind interaction is likely to increase from March 12 onwards. This meteorological phenomenon is expected to result in isolated rainfall chances over Maharashtra and adjacent areas. Citizens are urged to be watchful of the changing weather patterns.
