Maharashtra Weather: IMD Predicts Weakened Monsoon Activity in the Next Few Days, Although Yellow Alerts Issued for Some Districts

Pune, May 31, 2025: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Extended Range Forecast (ERF) indicates less rainfall likely in South, Central, and East India till early June. The monsoon currents over the Arabian Sea (AS) and Bay of Bengal (BoB) are expected to weaken until the first week of June. With reduced cloud cover, day temperatures are likely to rise, leading to localized convection and thunderstorms (TS) in the afternoon or evening, accompanied by lightning.
District-Wise Weather Forecast for Maharashtra (June 1–4, 2025)
🔶 Yellow Alert – Heavy Rainfall & Thunderstorms
Several districts are under a yellow alert, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–50 kmph) on at least one day. Residents should remain cautious of potential hazards like tree falls, power outages, and crop damage. The affected districts include:
- Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg (Konkan)
- Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, Yavatmal (Vidarbha)
🟢 Green Alert – Light to Moderate Rain
The following districts are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, with no severe weather warnings:
- Palghar, Thane, Mumbai (Coastal)
- Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ghats of Nasik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Ghats of Pune, Ghats of Kolhapur, Kolhapur, Satara, Ghats of Satara, Sangli (North & West Maharashtra)
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded (Marathwada)
✅ Green Alert – No Warning
These districts will see minimal weather activity, with only isolated light rainfall expected:
- Sholapur, Latur, Dharashiv
Monsoon Outlook & Pune’s Record Rainfall
As per IMD’s latest forecast, most parts of India, including Maharashtra, are likely to experience above-normal rainfall (blue shades) this monsoon (June–September). Meanwhile, Pune’s Shivajinagar has recorded 240.4 mm of rainfall in May 2025, making it the wettest May in over a decade.
