To ensure a pollution-free environment for future generations, the Maharashtra government is taking a firm stand on vehicle emission control. The transport department has announced that in the near future, every petrol pump in the state will strictly implement the “No PUC… No Fuel” rule. This means that vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will not be allowed to refuel.

A meeting at the Transport Commissioner’s office, chaired by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and attended by Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, Additional Secretary Rajendra Holkar, and other senior officials, discussed the steps needed to tighten enforcement. Under the new system, petrol pumps will use CCTV cameras to scan the number plates of all vehicles coming for fuel. The system will instantly check whether the vehicle’s PUC certificate is valid.

If a vehicle’s PUC is invalid or expired, it will be denied fuel. At the same time, arrangements will be made to issue a valid PUC certificate at the pump itself to ensure that vehicle owners are not unduly inconvenienced. Every PUC certificate will now carry a unique ID (UID), allowing authorities to check its validity at any time.

The transport department also plans to crack down on networks involved in the illegal creation of PUC certificates through targeted enforcement drives. The government is urging citizens to cooperate and adopt eco-friendly practices by ensuring their vehicles meet emission norms.

This step is seen as crucial for protecting the environment and promoting responsible vehicle ownership. By enforcing strict checks, the state aims to eliminate misuse and help create cleaner air for the generations to come.
