Maharashtra Heatwave: Pune One of the Hottest Cities at 43.6°C, Bramhapuri Sizzles at 45.6°C as IMD Flags Heatwave Alerts for Various Districts

Pune is fast cementing its place among the hottest cities in Maharashtra, as temperatures soared to a season-high of 43.6°C at Lohegaon on Wednesday. The intense heat prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for the city, forecasting continued high temperatures for Thursday.

According to IMD Pune scientist SD Sanap, “An anti-cyclonic circulation over central India and Maharashtra is preventing moisture incursion, causing a significant rise in day temperatures.” With no rainfall expected in the next five days, the sweltering conditions are expected to persist.

Lohegaon, consistently the city’s hottest spot, has frequently crossed 40°C in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Shivajinagar followed with a high of 41.2°C, 3°C above normal. Other scorching spots included Koregaon Park (41.7°C), Wadgaonsheri and Pashan (40.8°C), Hadapsar and Chinchwad (40.7°C), and Magarpatta (40.4°C).
The heatwave has taken a toll on daily life, especially for two-wheeler riders, many of whom were seen seeking shade or cooling off at juice stalls. The discomfort is palpable as the city continues to bake under a relentless sun.

- In Vidarbha, the situation is even more alarming. Bramhapuri emerged as the hottest place in Maharashtra at 45.6°C, a staggering 4.1°C above normal. It was closely followed by Chandrapur (45.5°C), Akola (45.0°C), Wardha (44.7°C), Amravati (44.6°C), and Nagpur (44.4°C).
These figures reflect a worrying trend of intensifying heatwaves across the state.
Heat Alerts Across Maharashtra
The IMD has flagged several districts for heat-related warnings:
- Yellow alert for hot and humid conditions: Pune, Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Latur, Dharashiv, Jalna, and Ahilyanagar.
- Yellow alert for isolated heatwave pockets: Solapur, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, and Akola.
- Orange alert for heatwave: Amravati, Chandrapur, Nagpur, and Wardha.

With the mercury soaring and no immediate respite in sight, IMD officials are urging residents to avoid venturing out during peak afternoon hours and to stay well hydrated.
As temperatures continue to climb, it’s clear that Pune is rapidly emerging as one of the hottest urban centers in Maharashtra, making it critical for citizens and authorities alike to stay alert and prepared.
