Maharashtra Government Working to Ensure Safe Return of Tourists from the State Stranded in Nepal, Issues Advisory

Mumbai, September 10, 2025: With political instability and rising tensions in Nepal, the Maharashtra government is acting fast to ensure the safe return of tourists from the state who are stuck there. The state administration, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and Maharashtra Sadan, is in constant touch with the Indian Embassy in Nepal to provide necessary assistance.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the top priority is to bring back every stranded tourist safely and give their families peace of mind. He also urged people not to panic. “The government is fully committed to helping our people. Everyone’s safety is our concern,” he said.

So far, around 100 tourists from districts like Thane, Pune, Mumbai, Latur, and Kolhapur have been reported stuck in Nepal. Tourists from Beed district have already begun returning by road in private vehicles and have reached Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The largest group of tourists stranded comes from Murbad in Thane district.

The government is actively reaching out to each tourist and providing the support they need. Ajit Pawar confirmed that all tourists are safe at the moment.

In light of the situation, the Maharashtra State Emergency Operations Centre has issued important guidelines for citizens:

  • Avoid travelling to Nepal for now.
  • Those already in Nepal should stay indoors and follow instructions from local authorities and the Indian Embassy.
  • Do not venture out unnecessarily.
