Maharashtra Government approves setting up nine new governement medical colleges

PuneNow, June 30, 2023: In an effort to rapidly enhance the health system in Maharashtra, the cabinet has decided to establish 9 new government medical colleges across different districts. The project is expected to cost about INR 4,365.72 crores.

Currently, there are government medical colleges in 24 out of the 36 districts in the state, but districts like Palghar, Thane (Ambernath), Jalna, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Wardha, Bhandara, and Gadchiroli lack such facilities. New medical colleges in these 9 districts will have the capacity to admit 100 students each. In addition, the cabinet has approved the establishment of hospitals with 430 beds associated with these medical colleges.

Center of Excellence in Kolhapur Medical College

The cabinet has also approved the establishment of a modern Center of Excellence in government and private engineering, pharmaceutical colleges, and institutions across the state. A Center of Excellence will be established at the government engineering and research college in Pune district and at the government institution in Kolhapur.

Deen Dayal Antyodaya Scheme Gets Approval

The cabinet has given approval to implement the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Scheme, or the National Urban Livelihoods Mission, in 153 municipal local self-governance institutions in Maharashtra. The scheme will be implemented in local self-governance institutions in districts such as Kolhapur, Pune, Raigad, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Solapur, Thane, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal.
