Chilling Video: Leopard Drags Away Sleeping Dog in Pune’s Ambegaon; Residents on High Alert
PUNE: Residents of Mengdewadi, near Manchar in the Ambegaon Tehsil, are in a state of shock after a brazen leopard attack was captured on CCTV during the early hours of Wednesday. The terrifying footage, which has since gone viral, highlights the escalating man-animal conflict gripping the rural pockets of Pune district.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:22 AM in a residential area. The surveillance footage shows three dogs resting in a common space during the dead of night. While one larger dog appears to sense a predator in the shadows and cautiously retreats, a smaller indie dog remains fast asleep, completely unaware of the approaching danger.
Within seconds, the leopard lunges from the darkness with lethal precision, pinning the smaller dog before dragging it into the nearby brush. A third dog is seen barking frantically in an attempt to sound an alarm, but the predator vanished with its prey before any intervention could be made.

This attack comes amid a surge in leopard sightings across the district, further intensifying fears among the local agrarian community. Just 24 hours prior to the Mengdewadi incident, another leopard was spotted roaming through a farm in the Otur village area of Junnar Tehsil.
While no human injuries have been reported in these recent sightings, the audacity of the predator entering a residential pocket has prompted urgent calls for action. The Maharashtra Forest Department has been officially notified of the incident, and officials have confirmed that a probe is underway to track the movement of the wild cat. Local residents are now demanding increased patrolling to ensure the safety of both livestock and humans in the region.
