Konkan Railway Launches RoRo Service From Mumbai to Goa to Ease Ganeshotsav Travel for Car Owners

In a pioneering move to ease travel woes during the festive season, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has introduced a special RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off) service for the transportation of cars between Kolad (Near Mumbai, Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa). This initiative aims to help devotees and travelers avoid the stress of road travel, potholes, and long traffic snarls during Ganeshotsav 2025, while still allowing them to travel in their own vehicle.

Skip Traffic, Not Celebration – RoRo This Ganpati!

As the festive fervor grips Maharashtra and Goa, KRCL has launched the RoRo service with the slogan: “Skip the traffic, not the celebration – RoRo your car this Ganpati!” This service allows users to transport their car via train and travel comfortably in a passenger coach attached to the same rake, making the journey stress-free and efficient.

Key Features of the RoRo Car Transport Service

  • Route & Timings:
    • Kolad to Verna: Departure at 17:00 hrs (Day 1), Arrival at 05:00 hrs (Day 2)
    • Verna to Kolad: Departure at 17:00 hrs (Day 1), Arrival at 05:00 hrs (Day 2)
    • Reporting Time: Passengers must report by 14:00 hrs on the day of departure
  • Schedule of Operations:
    • From Kolad: August 23, 25, 27, 29, 31; September 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
    • From Verna: August 24, 26, 28, 30; September 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11
  • Capacity: Each rake has 20 wagons and can carry up to 40 cars. Each wagon accommodates 2 cars.
  • Minimum Requirement: Trips will operate only if minimum 16 cars are booked. If not met, the trip will be cancelled and registration fees refunded.

Booking Procedure & Charges

  • Freight Charges per Car: ₹7,875 (including 5% GST)
  • Registration Fee: ₹4,000 per car (adjusted in total freight cost)
  • Balance Payment: ₹3,875 to be paid on the day of journey at the origin station
  • Booking Window:
    • Opens: 10:30 hrs on 21st July 2025
    • Closes: 17:00 hrs on 13th August 2025
    • Working Days Only: Monday to Friday
  • Mode of Payment: UPI, Cash, or Credit/Debit Card at station
  • Documents Required:
    • Aadhar Card (copy)
    • PAN Card (copy)
    • RC Book/Card of the Car
    • Valid Insurance (copy)

Passenger Travel Facility

  • A 3AC coach is attached to each RoRo train.
    • Fare: ₹935 per passenger (max 2 passengers per car)
  • One additional person may travel in SLR coach at ₹190 (2S fare)
  • Total limit: 3 passengers per car
  • Manual EFT tickets will be issued at stations and linked to the car’s booking

Terms and Conditions

  • Registration Forfeiture: If the customer doesn’t show up by 14:00 hrs, registration charges are forfeited
  • No Cancellations by Customer: Post-booking cancellations are not allowed by the customer
  • Refunds Only in Case of Service Cancellation by KRCL
  • Responsibility of Car Loading/Unloading: Lies with the customer, though assistance will be provided
  • Car Safety:
    • Cars will be secured with lashing belts
    • Hand brakes must be applied; doors should be locked
    • No person is allowed inside the car during the train journey
  • Prohibited Items: No unlawful or inflammable material to be kept inside the vehicle
  • Liability: KRCL holds no responsibility for damage, loss or theft of items in the car. Passengers travel at their own risk
