IRCTC Launches ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit’ Special Train to Celebrate Maratha Legacy
In a unique initiative to celebrate the rich cultural and historical legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) has announced a special 5-day tourist train—the ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit’—under the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train initiative. This journey offers travelers an immersive experience into the iconic life, valor, and architecture associated with the legendary Maratha warrior king.
Tour Launch Details
The train is scheduled to depart on June 9, 2025, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, and will conclude on June 14, 2025, early morning. Passengers can also board from Dadar and Thane stations.
Circuit Highlights and Destinations
The five-day itinerary has been meticulously curated to include locations deeply associated with the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj:
- Raigad Fort – Coronation site and capital of the Maratha Kingdom.
- Pune – Includes Lal Mahal (his childhood residence), Kasba Ganpati (installed by Rajmata Jijau and Shivaji Maharaj), and Shivsrushti, a thematic museum.
- Shivneri Fort – Birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
- Pratapgarh Fort – Site of the historic battle with Afzal Khan and the Tulja Bhavani Temple built by Shivaji Maharaj.
- Panhala Fort – Known for its strategic layout and bravery of Baji Prabhu Deshpande.
- Kolhapur – Includes a visit to the sacred Mahalakshmi Temple.
In addition, the tour includes a spiritual visit to Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, enhancing the cultural depth of the itinerary.
Travel Route and Schedule
The train will follow this route:
CSMT – Mangaon – Pune – Satara – Kolhapur – CSMT
Each day is packed with guided sightseeing, temple visits, and fort explorations. Overnight stays will be arranged in hotels at Pune and Kolhapur, depending on the chosen package.

- Comfort (3AC) – ₹19,840
- Superior (2AC) – ₹27,365
These prices are inclusive of GST, and passengers booking solo may have to share accommodation.
