MUMBAI (May 28, 2025): IndiGo has been confirmed as the first airline to commence commercial operations from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), marking a major milestone for India’s aviation sector. The airline will begin domestic services when the airport opens, expected by August, with international flights set to launch in November 2025.

IndiGo’s Expansion Plans at NMIA

IndiGo will initially operate 18 daily departures, connecting over 15 cities. By November 2025, the airline plans to expand to 79 daily flights, including 14 international routes. Further scaling is expected by November 2026, with 140 daily departures, of which 30 will be international.

The Navi Mumbai airport, developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (NMIAL)—a joint venture between Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) and CIDCO—aims to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport. The Adani Group, which operates NMIA, has partnered with IndiGo to enhance connectivity and passenger experience.

Strengthening India’s Aviation Growth

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers stated, *“This partnership underscores our commitment to affordable, on-time travel while supporting India’s goal to become the third-largest aviation economy by 2030.”*

Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), added, “NMIA will serve as a key hub for domestic and international travelers, offering seamless connectivity and world-class facilities.”
