Pune, December 14, 2025: In a major relief for air travellers, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced on Saturday that IndiGo’s flight operations have returned to “about 90 per cent of normal” following the recent period of widespread disruptions.

Speaking to reporters in Pune, where he was attending the inauguration of the Pune Book Festival at Fergusson College, the Union Minister addressed the recent crisis faced by India’s largest carrier.

Mohol confirmed that the government is closely monitoring the situation. “Air services will resume gradually in the country. Prime Minister Modi ji has issued instructions, and an explanation has been sought from IndiGo. About 90 per cent of their flight operations have returned to normal,” he stated.

The airline had faced a major operational meltdown, which was linked to a failure to implement tighter Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) for its pilots, leading to the cancellation of thousands of flights nationwide. The peak of the cancellations occurred around December 5, but the situation has shown steady improvement since then, with the airline reporting operating over 2,050 flights on Saturday with minimal cancellations.

Furthermore, Mohol assured the public that accountability would be fixed for the massive inconvenience caused to passengers. “Passengers have suffered losses, and the ministry is taking immediate action,” Mohol said, adding that a four-member committee would be appointed to fix responsibility for the situation.

The Minister’s statement in Pune underscores the significant steps taken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to enforce stricter compliance and restore stability to the nation’s air travel network. The government had previously issued a show-cause notice to the IndiGo CEO and capped domestic airfares to prevent price gouging during the crisis.
