Milestone in Clean Freight Transport
Speaking at the launch event, Fadnavis said the electric highway will revolutionize freight movement by reducing emissions and improving efficiency. “This is not just about technology, t’s about transforming how India moves goods while advancing toward a green economy,” he noted.

How Does the Electric Highway Work?

The Pune-Mumbai Electric Highway is designed to support long-distance travel for electric freight and passenger vehicles through a network of fast-charging and battery-swapping stations placed at regular intervals. These stations allow trucks and cars to recharge or replace batteries quickly, minimizing downtime during journeys.

In addition to charging hubs, the corridor uses smart energy management systems that monitor vehicle movement, energy use, and grid load in real-time. This ensures efficient power distribution and helps maintain consistent energy supply along the route.

The corridor also integrates renewable energy sources like solar power to charge stations, making the entire system cleaner and more cost-effective. By combining infrastructure, technology, and sustainability, the electric highway offers a blueprint for India’s future green transport network.

Blue Energy Motors Unveils India’s First Heavy-Duty Electric Truck
At the inauguration, Blue Energy Motors showcased its first Made-in-India electric heavy-duty truck at its Chakan facility in Pune. The vehicle features a battery-swapping system that allows quick replacements, eliminating long charging breaks. Fadnavis hailed the innovation as a symbol of Maharashtra’s industrial leadership and its dedication to green growth.

Major Investment in EV Manufacturing
To meet rising demand for electric freight vehicles, Blue Energy Motors has signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government to set up a ₹3,500 crore manufacturing plant capable of producing 30,000 trucks annually.

Government’s Vision for Electric Mobility
Fadnavis announced that Maharashtra plans to electrify all major highway routes within the next three years. The state is also expanding EV infrastructure with strategically placed charging and battery-swapping stations. “By 2035, nearly 70 percent of Maharashtra’s energy needs will be met through solar power,” he said.

Industry Leaders Speak on India’s Green Transport Revolution
Anirudh Bhuwalkar, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, said the electric corridor marks the start of India’s green logistics revolution. “Our Energy-as-a-Service model will help create a more sustainable and cost-efficient transport ecosystem,” he said.

Pune’s Role in India’s EV Growth
With this landmark development, Pune has strengthened its position as a key hub for India’s electric vehicle and clean energy ecosystem. The Pune-Mumbai electric highway corridor now stands as a model for other states to follow in building a sustainable, low-emission future.
