Pune, June 20, 2025 – In a significant relief to vehicle owners, the Maharashtra State Transport Department has extended the deadline for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to August 15, 2025, for vehicles registered before April 2019, reported Times of India. This comes after the earlier deadline of June 30 proved challenging for many.
No Further Extensions, Penalties After August 15
State Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar confirmed to Times of India that this would be the final extension. “There will be no further deadline extensions. Vehicles registered before April 2019 found without HSRP after August 15 will face penalties,” he stated firmly.
Pune RTO’s HSRP Fitment Progress
Under the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), approximately 25 lakh vehicles still require HSRP installation. So far, only 2.6 lakh plates have been fitted, indicating a slow adoption rate.
Challenges in the HSRP Fitment Process
Many Pune residents have reported difficulties in securing appointments and completing the HSRP installation process. A state transport department official advised vehicle owners to at least book an appointment and keep the payment receipt as proof to avoid penalties post-deadline.
“Those who haven’t even scheduled an HSRP fitment appointment will face strict action after August 15,” the official warned.
What Vehicle Owners Should Do Now
- Book an HSRP fitment appointment immediately via the official portal.
- Keep the payment receipt as proof of compliance.
- Complete the installation before August 15Â to avoid fines.
This is the last opportunity for vehicle owners to comply with the HSRP mandate. Delays could lead to penalties and legal consequences.
