The fault, which occurred on Sunday (July 6) afternoon near the Hinjawadi Metro Station, had triggered a power emergency, disrupting electricity for 52,000 low-tension consumers, 91 high-tension consumers, and two extra high-tension (EHT) consumers—Infosys and Nextra.

To manage the crisis, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) worked tirelessly to reroute power through alternate lines for most consumers while Mahapareshan engineers focused on repairing the damaged transmission line.

Timeline of the Power Outage & Restoration

  • Sunday, July 6, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM – Planned maintenance at Hinjawadi and Pegasus 220kV substations required a temporary shutdown.
  • Sunday, 2:10 PM – A major fault developed in the Infosys-Pegasus 220kV line, causing widespread outages.
  • Sunday, 10:00 PM to Monday, 4:00 AM – Power was restored via alternate routes for all 52,000 low-tension consumers and several industries.
  • Monday afternoon – 76 out of 91 high-tension consumers were brought back online.
  • Monday onwards – A rotational 5-hour power supply plan was implemented for 10 large industries.
  • Tuesday – All but 9 high-tension and 2 EHT consumers (Nextra 1 & 2) were restored.
  • Wednesday, 12:40 PM – The original fault was fully repaired, and normal power supply resumed for all consumers, including Nextra.

Behind the Scenes: How the Crisis Was Managed

Senior officials, including Mahapareshan Director (Operations) Satish Chavan, MSEDCL Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade, and Mahapareshan Chief Engineer Anil Kolap, coordinated efforts from Pune. Emergency teams deployed additional manpower and technical resources to expedite repairs.

Sunil Kakade, Chief Engineer, MSEDCL Pune Zone, stated, “The fault in Mahapareshan’s line was extensive, and rerouting supply from other substations was a complex task. However, due to the relentless efforts of our engineers and support from consumers, we overcame the crisis.”

The quick response and efficient contingency planning ensured minimal disruption for residents and businesses in Hinjawadi, reaffirming MSEDCL’s commitment to reliable power supply.
