Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms Forecast Across Maharashtra; Alerts Issued for Mumbai, Pune

Maharashtra is set to experience a spell of intense monsoon activity over the next few days, with thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds expected across most districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for different regions, warning people to remain cautious.

Several districts, including Mumbai and Pune, are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The Konkan belt and the Western Ghats, including the ghats of Pune and Kolhapur, have been placed under an orange alert, signalling the likelihood of very heavy rain.
From September 2, rainfall is expected to intensify in Maharashtra, with parts of Vidarbha on orange alert. On September 3, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and the ghats of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara will also face similar warnings. By September 4, heavy showers are likely to cover Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and the Nashik ghats.

For Pune city, rain activity is expected to pick up from Tuesday afternoon. Former IMD scientist Anupam Kashyapi has urged residents to stay safe and take necessary precautions.
With the weather department flagging multiple districts for heavy downpours, people are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, watch out for waterlogging in low-lying areas, and stay alert to changing weather conditions.
