GST Rate Cut: TV, AC, Refrigerator, Dishwasher Get Cheaper by Up to ₹85,000
Starting Monday, September 22, the government’s GST rate cuts have come into effect, making nearly 375 items more affordable. The move, announced by the GST Council and timed with the beginning of Navratri, covers everyday essentials, consumer durables, and even aspirational goods.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address on Sunday, said the reform will ease financial pressure on households by reducing costs across categories. With this change, only two GST slabs remain for most items, 5 per cent and 18 per cent. Food, medicines, soaps, toothpaste, and insurance now fall under either zero or 5 per cent GST. At the same time, high-value goods like TVs, ACs, refrigerators, and dishwashers are now cheaper thanks to a lower 18 per cent GST rate compared to the earlier 28 per cent.
TVs are among the biggest beneficiaries of the tax cut. Prices have been slashed by up to ₹85,000 depending on size and model. Sony India has reduced MRPs between ₹5,000 and ₹71,000 on its Bravia range, LG has cut prices by ₹2,500 to ₹85,800 across screen sizes from 43 inches to 100 inches, and Panasonic has lowered costs by ₹3,000 to ₹32,000.

Air conditioners are also seeing notable price drops. Brands like Voltas, Daikin, Godrej, LG, Panasonic, and Haier have rolled out revised prices. Daikin’s 1-ton 5-star inverter split AC is now priced at ₹18,890, down from ₹20,500. LG has reduced its entry-level 1-ton 3-star inverter split AC by ₹2,800 to ₹32,890, while 2-ton split ACs are now cheaper by ₹4,400 at ₹55,490.
Refrigerators are expected to cost 7 to 9 per cent less, with Godrej Appliances and LG already announcing revised MRPs. Similarly, dishwashers will see up to ₹8,000 reduction in prices. BSH Home Appliances has slashed its entry-level model to ₹45,000 from ₹49,000, while the top model is now available for ₹96,500, down by ₹8,000.
The festive season boost is expected to improve consumer demand for both essentials and big-ticket purchases.
