The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has once again raised serious concerns about the deteriorating condition of roads and infrastructure in Hinjawadi IT Park, urging Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to intervene for an immediate resolution.

Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had appointed a Single Point Authority (SPA) to streamline solutions for the area’s civic and connectivity issues. The divisional commissioner was tasked with coordinating all government departments and conducting weekly review meetings. Despite these efforts, problems such as poor roads, potholes, damaged footpaths, and neglected public amenities remain unresolved.

Meetings But No Results

Several meetings were held at Pune Vidhan Bhavan involving different government departments and industry representatives. A Single Point of Contact (SPOC) was appointed for Hinjawadi after these meetings. However, only one review meeting has taken place so far, and progress on major projects remains slow.

Land acquisition delays, lack of inter-department coordination, and incomplete metro and road projects have made daily commuting in Hinjawadi increasingly difficult. Although some action was taken against illegal structures and encroachments, crucial road widening and infrastructure development work have stalled.

Key Demands by IT Employees

The Forum for IT Employees has listed several urgent repair and maintenance needs:

  • The Hinjawadi–Kasarsai and Mahalunge–Hinjawadi roads are filled with potholes and require immediate resurfacing.
  • The Lakshmi Chowk–Marunji stretch is badly damaged and unsafe for commuters.
  • Footpaths near Shivaji Chowk and along the Infosys Phase 1–Blue Ridge route are broken and encroached upon.
  • Many bus stops lack shelters, exposing commuters to harsh weather.
  • The TCS–Megapolis and Wipro–Marunji backup roads are in poor shape.
  • The service road from Bhumkar Chowk to Punawale is in dangerous condition.
  • The Mahalunge backup road project remains stuck due to land disputes.
  • Streetlight maintenance and coordination between Metro and MIDC are neglected.

Ajit Pawar Steps In

After the forum escalated these long-pending issues, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to take immediate action on 16 specific problem areas identified by IT employees.

FITE stated that poor infrastructure, chaotic traffic, and weak connectivity are affecting Pune’s growth and making it less attractive for major tech companies to set up operations in the city. The forum hopes Ajit Pawar’s intervention will finally lead to lasting solutions.
