Flying Buses That Can Cruise Non-Stop at 240 km/h & Ultra-Modern Electric Double-Deckers for Hilly Regions: Nitin Gadkari Unveils Futuristic Transport Plan for India

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced ambitious plans to revolutionize India’s public transport system, including flying buses and high-speed electric double-deckers, aiming to tackle the country’s chronic traffic woes.
During an interview with ANI, Gadkari revealed that the government is exploring an aerial pod transit system between Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan and Manesar to ease congestion. Similar feasibility studies are underway in Bengaluru and Pune.
Mountain States to Get High-Tech Electric Buses
In a bid to boost connectivity in hilly regions, the government plans to introduce double-decker electric buses between Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir. These buses will seat 135 passengers and feature executive-class amenities, including onboard TVs.
The first of these buses will operate in Nagpur, reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h. Using flash-charging technology, they will recharge in just 30 seconds every 40 km, making them energy-efficient and cost-effective. Similar routes are planned for Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Dehradun, and Bangalore-Chennai.
What Are Flying Buses?
Flying buses are essentially aerial pod taxis—compact, electric vehicles running on elevated tracks. Capable of carrying 2-6 passengers non-stop at speeds up to 240 km/h, they promise a faster, congestion-free commute.
With these innovations, Gadkari aims to make public transport smoother, greener, and more efficient, potentially transforming urban and intercity travel in India.
