Early Summer? Pune & Maharashtra Braced for Rising Heat and ‘Very High’ UV Alert
Pune | Monday, February 9, 2026 – The familiar winter chill is making a hasty exit as Pune and broader Maharashtra transition into a pre-summer phase. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has signaled a “warmer-than-normal” February, with Pune’s daytime temperatures already climbing and a dangerous spike in UV radiation forecast for the week ahead.
Pune 7-Day Outlook: Clear Skies and Rising Mercury
Following a brief dip to 12.9°C on Sunday, night temperatures in Pune are expected to stabilize, but the real story is the daytime heat. Clear skies over the next 7 days will allow maximum temperatures to hover between 31°C and 33°C.

Maharashtra Outlook: A Statewide Warm-Up
Across Maharashtra, the trend remains consistent. While the Konkan coast, including Mumbai, is already recording temperatures 4°C above normal (touching 35°C), central Maharashtra and Vidarbha are seeing a gradual rise. The IMD attributes this to the lack of active weather systems and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, which is keeping nights warmer than usual for this time of year.
The UV Hazard: Wednesday Peak
The most critical warning for Punekars this week is the UV Index. While Monday and Tuesday will see a “Very High” level of 9, Wednesday (Feb 11) is expected to reach a peak of 10.
- At UV 9-10: Skin can suffer damage in as little as 15–20 minutes.
- Precaution: Residents are advised to avoid outdoor exposure between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. If outdoors, use broad-spectrum sunscreen and wear UV-protective sunglasses.
Expert Take
“The absence of significant Western Disturbances means cold air intrusions from the north have stopped,” said a weather scientist. “Combined with persistent easterly winds, we are looking at a much milder end to the winter and an early onset of summer-like conditions across the state.”
