Pune, June 09, 2025: PMC has published precautions and guidelines for Covid-19 prevention. It says as per the Maharashtra Government’s guidelines, it is important to note that most COVID-19 cases are currently mild in nature.

The currently circulating Omicron variants include JN.1, XFG, and LF 7.9. These variants typically cause mild symptoms such as fever, cough, and throat irritation, which usually resolve on their own. Most individuals do not require medical treatment. Hence, citizens are advised not to panic and to follow the preventive measures listed below:

Precautions to be Taken in Public Places:

  • Practice proper cough etiquette (cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing).
  • Do not spit in public places.
  • Senior citizens, people with comorbidities, and those with weakened immune systems should avoid crowded or poorly ventilated areas, or use face masks in such places.

Measures to Prevent Respiratory Illness:

1. Respiratory Hygiene

  • If you have a cold or cough, wear a triple-layer medical mask.
  • Always cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue while coughing or sneezing.
  • Patients showing severe respiratory symptoms should self-monitor their health, and if symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain occur, they should immediately seek medical attention at the nearest hospital.

2. Hand Hygiene

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth without washing hands.

Who Should Get Tested for COVID-19?

Individuals with the following conditions should get tested for COVID-19 after consulting a qualified medical professional:

  • Acute respiratory infection with a history of fever (above 38°C) and cough lasting more than 10 days.
  • Patients requiring hospitalization due to respiratory illness.

This advisory is issued in public interest to ensure citizens remain informed, cautious, and safe. Let us all work together to stay healthy and prevent the spread of infection.
