Chennai to Bengaluru in 2 Hours 25 Minutes? Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru Bullet Train Project Accelerates: Survey and Land Acquisition Underway

High-Speed Rail Corridor to Transform Southern India’s Connectivity
In a major leap toward modernizing India’s rail infrastructure, the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru bullet train project has gained significant momentum, with survey markers and alignment markings now visible along the proposed route. The 435-kilometre high-speed rail corridor, spearheaded by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), is set to slash travel time between these key southern cities from 6.5 hours to just 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Project Overview: A Game-Changer for Southern India
The bullet train corridor, designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, will pass through Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, featuring nine strategically located stations. The NHSRCL has confirmed that land acquisition is progressing swiftly, particularly along the Andhra-Karnataka border, following directives from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
NHSRCL Managing Director Nishant Singhal emphasized that a dedicated rail corridor will be constructed exclusively for the bullet train, ensuring seamless high-speed operations. The project’s alignment closely follows the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, running between Hoskote (near Bengaluru) and Sriperumbudur (near Chennai).
Land Acquisition and Survey Work in Full Swing
Land acquisition is currently underway in 41 villages, affecting approximately 876 farmers. Stone markers have been placed, and preliminary notices detailing land requirements have been issued to landowners.
A crucial 77-kilometre stretch in Chittoor district (Andhra Pradesh)—passing through Palamaner and Bangarupalem—will include a proposed station near Ramapuram (Palamaner). Survey teams are actively mapping utilities, identifying overhead and underground infrastructure, and scouting locations for power substations.

Elevated Tracks for Uninterrupted Operations
To ensure smooth and obstruction-free travel, the corridor will feature multiple elevated bridges, minimizing disruptions to existing road and rail networks. Contracts for General Alignment Drawings (GAD) and utility mapping have been awarded, with construction expected to begin soon after land acquisition is finalized.

Economic Boost and Reduced Travel Time
Currently, the Vande Bharat Express holds the record as the fastest train on this route, covering Chennai to Mysuru in 6.5 hours. The bullet train will revolutionize this commute, fostering economic growth, tourism, and business connectivity across the region.
With land acquisition nearing completion in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and progressing in Karnataka, officials anticipate rapid progress into the construction phase in the coming months.
