Bopdev Ghat Road Closed for 7 Days: Check Alternate Routes and Official Traffic Advisory for Pune–Saswad Commuters
PUNE – Commuters traveling between Pune and Saswad are set to face significant travel adjustments this week as the critical Bopdev Ghat stretch remains completely shut for all vehicular movement starting today.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has announced a total closure of the Pune–Saswad Bopdev Ghat road from Thursday, January 8, 2026, to Wednesday, January 14, 2026. This 24-hour restriction applies to all vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars, and heavy transport, to facilitate urgent road widening and repair work.
PWD Cites Safety Concerns for Week-Long Closure
The decision to implement a full closure rather than partial traffic movement was taken by the PWD (Haveli Division–2). Officials stated that the nature of the work, which includes extensive road widening, gravelling, and surface repairs, makes it impossible to allow traffic without compromising the safety of commuters and the quality of construction.
They emphasized that keeping the narrow ghat section open during heavy machinery operations would pose a high risk of accidents. “We appeal to the public to cooperate with the administration. This temporary closure is essential to deliver a safer and wider road for the thousands of residents who use this route daily,” an official stated.
Official Update from MP Supriya Sule
Baramati MP and NCP-SP leader Supriya Sule also took to social media to alert her constituents. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance and strictly follow the diverted routes provided by the authorities.
“The Bopdev Ghat route will remain completely closed for all vehicular traffic due to PWD road works until January 14. I request all passengers to take note of this and use the suggested alternate routes for a hassle-free journey,” Sule posted.
Bopdev Ghat Alternate Routes: How to Reach Saswad
With the shortest link between Kondhwa/Yewalewadi and Purandar taluka being cut off, traffic is being diverted to several other ghat sections. Commuters are advised to use the following alternatives:
- Dive Ghat: The primary and most popular alternative for those traveling from Hadapsar and South Pune.
- Narayanpur via Kapurhol: A viable route for travelers coming from the Satara Road or Katraj side.
- Chivewadi Ghat: An additional bypass for light vehicles.
- Saswad–Khed Shivapur Link Road: Recommended for those traveling toward the highway.
Impact on Daily Commuters
Bopdev Ghat is a lifeline for residents of Saswad, Jejuri, and the surrounding Purandar region who work in Pune city. The closure is expected to add approximately 30 to 45 minutes to the average commute time due to the increased distance and the expected traffic congestion at Dive Ghat.
Local authorities have deployed additional traffic personnel at the entry points of Bopdev Ghat to guide motorists and prevent any unauthorized entry into the construction zone. Commuters are encouraged to use navigation apps and stay updated via local news portals for real-time traffic density reports on the alternate routes.
