BLR Airport Tightens Pick-Up Rules: Free 8 Minutes for Private Cars, Fines for Overstaying
Bengaluru, December 15, 2025: Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport), has rolled out a new, stricter lane segregation system effective December 8, 2025, aimed at drastically reducing kerbside congestion, improving safety, and ensuring a smoother arrival experience for passengers.
Operated by Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), the third-largest and fastest-growing airport in India, handling approximately 130,000 passengers and 100,000 vehicles daily, is taking decisive action to address the significant strain on its landside facilities.
The New System: Time Limits and Tiers of Charges
The primary focus of the new measures is to eliminate “artificial congestion” caused by private cars and cabs prolonged waiting in the designated arrival pick-up zones in front of Terminals 1 and 2.
Under the new lane segregation system:
- Private Cars (White Board): Entry to the pick-up zone remains free. However, drivers must adhere to a strict time limit to prevent misuse.
- Free Use: 8 minutes of free usage (a duration BIAL notes is “much higher than international standards”).
- Charge 1 (Overstay): ₹150/- for overstaying between 8 to 13 minutes.
- Charge 2 (Extended Overstay): ₹300/- for overstaying between 13 to 18 minutes.
- Towing: Any vehicle remaining in the zone beyond 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station, incurring applicable fines and towing charges.
Mandatory Zones for Commercial Vehicles
All commercial vehicles, including yellow board taxis and electric cabs, are now mandatorily required to wait for passengers only at designated parking zones.
- T1 Commercial Pick-Up: Proceed to the P4 and P3 parking zones.
- T2 Commercial Pick-Up: Directed to the P2 parking zone.
- Complimentary Parking: Commercial vehicles will receive the first 10 minutes of parking complimentary to facilitate a seamless transition.

Safety and Trust are Key
Hari Marar, MD & CEO of BIAL, emphasised that the move is driven by necessity due to rising passenger traffic, particularly during peak travel season.
“With passenger traffic continuing to rise… it becomes essential to maintain discipline at pick-up zones, not as enforcement, but as a way to protect travellers, ensure orderly movement, and strengthen trust in the system,” said Marar.
The airport has recently observed increased incidents of halts by unauthorised cabs, roadside pick-ups, and vehicles waiting in unapproved areas, leading to crowding, delays, and safety risks.
BeCabWise: Use Only Authorised Aggregators
The new initiative aligns with the airport’s larger #BeCabWise campaign, which promotes the use of designated pick-up points and authorised aggregators like Airport Taxi, Uber, Ola, Quick Ride, OHM electric cabs, and WTI cabs.
Any deviations from the rules, including halting in unauthorised areas, blocking lanes, or overstaying, will attract fines applicable to both cab operators and individuals. The overarching goal is a congestion-free landside environment where vehicle flow is smooth and boarding areas are safe and organised.
Travelers using BLR Airport from December 8th are encouraged to follow the marked routes, on-ground signage, and the updated pick-up maps for a hassle-free experience.
