Ashadhi Wari 2025 – Significance of Ashadh Month and the Wari
The Ashadh month (mid-June to mid-July) is considered spiritually important in the Hindu calendar. While it is avoided for events like weddings, it marks a time of intense devotion and pilgrimage, especially for Lord Vitthal, a form of Vishnu/Krishna. The Wari tradition, rooted in the Bhakti movement, sees lakhs of Warkaris (devotees) walking to Pandharpur in a unique display of collective spiritual fervor.
The twin processions of Ashadhi Wari 2025 — Sant Tukaram Maharaj from Dehu and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj from Alandi — reflect Maharashtra’s deep devotional traditions, blending music, community, and faith in a 700-year-old cultural legacy.
