Any Attack on Indian Soil Will be Considered as an Act of War – Defence Minister

Srinagar, May 16, 2025 – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a strong message yesterday, stating that any attack on Indian soil will now be considered an act of war, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s redefined policy against terrorism. Addressing soldiers at Badami Bagh Cantt in Srinagar, Singh emphasized India’s unwavering resolve to counter terrorism and safeguard its sovereignty.

India’s Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Terrorism
Singh warned Pakistan that if it continues to support terrorism, it will pay a heavier price. He reiterated that “terrorism and talks cannot go together”, and any future dialogue with Pakistan would only focus on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Defence Minister highlighted Operation Sindoor as India’s most decisive action against terrorism, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to eliminating terror threats at any cost. He praised the armed forces for their precision strikes, sending a clear message to terrorist groups and their handlers that they are no longer safe.

Pakistan’s Nuclear Threats & Call for IAEA Supervision
Singh condemned Pakistan’s irresponsible nuclear threats, questioning whether such weapons should remain under Islamabad’s control. He urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to supervise Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, citing its reckless behavior.
Homage to Martyrs & Strengthening Defence Preparedness
The Defence Minister paid tribute to civilians killed in the Pahalgam terror attack and soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Operation Sindoor. He assured that the government remains committed to modernizing the armed forces with advanced weaponry, including modern rifles, missile defence shields, and drones, all manufactured in India.

India’s Global Stance & Economic Strength
Singh contrasted India’s economic stability with Pakistan’s financial crisis, noting that while Pakistan seeks loans from the IMF, India contributes funds to assist poorer nations. He reaffirmed India’s stance on peace but warned that any violation of sovereignty would be met with a strong military response.
The event was attended by Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and senior military officials.
