Ajit Pawar Funeral: Baramati Bids Emotional Farewell to ‘Ajit Dada’ as Supporter’s Viral Video Captures Public Grief
Baramati, Maharashtra: Maharashtra on Thursday bids a tearful farewell to Deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar, as his last rites are being performed in his hometown Baramati with full state honours. From early morning, the town witnessed an overwhelming outpouring of grief, with thousands of supporters lining up to pay their final respects to the leader they fondly called ‘Ajit Dada’.
The funeral procession began from Ajit Pawar’s Katewadi residence, where his mortal remains were kept till 9 am for family members, party workers and local residents to offer their respects. His wife Sunetra Pawar, sons Parth and Jay, nephew Rohit Pawar and other members of the Pawar family were present. From there, the body was taken to the GDM Auditorium and later moved towards the Vidya Pratishthan ground, where the cremation is being held at 11 am.
As the hearse van moved through Baramati, chants of “Ajit Dada amar rahe” echoed across the streets. People from nearby villages and different parts of Maharashtra walked alongside the procession, many with folded hands and tear-filled eyes. The administration made elaborate security arrangements, given the massive turnout and the presence of several senior political leaders and dignitaries.
Amid the sombre funeral proceedings, an emotional video from outside the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Government Medical College went viral on social media, reflecting the depth of public grief. In the clip, a supporter can be heard crying inconsolably and pleading with Parth Pawar, saying, “‘Dada La I Love You Mhan…’ Parth Dada, Dada la ‘I Love You’ mhan.” The supporter’s voice breaks repeatedly as he struggles to come to terms with the loss. Parth Pawar, seen near the gate overseeing arrangements for his father’s final journey, acknowledges the supporter with a wave before the gates are closed.

The video has struck a deep emotional chord across the state, with many calling it a powerful reminder of Ajit Pawar’s connect with the common people of Baramati. Several visuals from the funeral showed grown men openly weeping, holding each other, and remembering the leader who dominated the region’s political landscape for decades.
Ajit Pawar, 66, passed away on Wednesday morning after the chartered aircraft he was travelling in crashed while attempting to land at Baramati Airport. The crash occurred near the tabletop runway during landing. Along with Pawar, two pilots, one crew member and his personal bodyguard were also on board. All five lost their lives in the tragic accident.
As the funeral rites concluded at the Vidya Pratishthan ground, Baramati fell silent in mourning. The scenes from the day, especially the viral emotional video, underlined the void left behind by Ajit Pawar, not just in Maharashtra’s politics but in the hearts of countless supporters who saw him as one of their own.
