Aadhaar Card Update Online: Step-by-Step Guide to Change Name, Address, Date of Birth, and Mobile Number
Keeping your Aadhaar card information accurate is extremely important since it serves as your key identification document for various government schemes, banking services, and verification processes in India. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it simple for citizens to update or correct their details both online and offline.
An incorrect name or outdated information on your Aadhaar can create serious problems with KYC (Know Your Customer) verification, banking transactions, or government benefit claims. To address this, UIDAI has streamlined the Aadhaar update system to make it faster and more efficient. The new update mechanism aims to cut down on paperwork by automatically validating user data through government databases such as PAN, passport, and ration card records. Additionally, UIDAI will now accept utility bills like electricity bills as valid proof for address changes.
A new mobile app is also being developed to make the process even easier. The upcoming app will feature a secure digital Aadhaar with a QR code, allowing users to share a masked or digital version instead of photocopies, ensuring better privacy and convenience.
Steps to Update Aadhaar Name Online
The easiest way to correct or update your name on your Aadhaar card is through the UIDAI’s Self Service Update Portal (SSUP). Make sure your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar, as OTP verification is required.
- Visit the UIDAI portal: Go to the official UIDAI website and open the Self Service Update Portal (SSUP).
- Login with OTP: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the Captcha code. Click on ‘Send OTP’ and use the code received on your registered mobile number to log in.
- Choose data to update: Select ‘Update Demographic Data’ and then click on ‘Name.’
- Enter the correct name: Type your correct name exactly as it appears on your supporting ID proof. Since Aadhaar allows only one name change, ensure the details are accurate.
- Upload proof of identity (PoI): Upload a scanned copy of a valid document such as your PAN card, passport, Voter ID, or Driving License.
- Verify and submit: Review your details and submit the request. You’ll receive an Update Request Number (URN) to track the status of your application.
Important Note:
Each Aadhaar holder can change their name only once, so double-check all details before submission to avoid any issues later.
Once the update is approved, the corrected information will appear in your Aadhaar records within a few days or weeks. You can then download your updated e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI website.
