Aadhaar Authentication & OTP Mandatory from July 2025 for all Tatkal Bookings on IRCTC Website
In a major move to curb misuse and ensure fair access to Tatkal tickets, Indian Railways has announced stringent new rules for Tatkal bookings, including mandatory Aadhaar authentication and OTP-based verification for all transactions. These changes, set to take effect in July 2025, aim to enhance transparency and prioritize genuine travelers.
Key Changes in Tatkal Ticket Booking System
1. Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory for Online Bookings
Starting July 1, 2025, only Aadhaar-authenticated users can book Tatkal tickets via the IRCTC website and mobile app. Additionally, from July 15, 2025, an OTP-based Aadhaar verification will be compulsory for all online Tatkal bookings.
2. OTP Verification for PRS Counters & Authorized Agents
From July 15, 2025, Tatkal tickets booked at Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters or through authorized agents will require OTP authentication sent to the passenger’s registered mobile number.
3. No Agent Bookings in First 30 Minutes
To prevent bulk bookings by agents, authorized ticketing agents will be barred from booking Tatkal tickets in the first 30 minutes of the booking window:
- AC Classes: 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM
- Non-AC Classes: 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Objective: Fair Access for Genuine Passengers
The Ministry of Railways stated that these measures are designed to eliminate fraudulent bookings and ensure that Tatkal tickets reach real passengers instead of touts. CRIS and IRCTC have been directed to implement necessary system upgrades and inform all Zonal Railways about the changes.
Passengers Advised to Link Aadhaar with IRCTC
Travelers are urged to link their Aadhaar with IRCTC accounts to avoid last-minute hassles. The new system is expected to streamline Tatkal bookings and reduce malpractices.
