Pune Voters Missing from Draft Electoral Roll Can Reapply Through Form 6, No Legal Action: Election Commission
Citizens in Pune whose names were included in earlier electoral rolls but are missing from the draft electoral roll published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) can apply afresh through Form No. 6 to get their names included in the voter list, the Election Commission of India has clarified.
The Commission has stated that applying through Form No. 6 in such cases will not be treated as a false declaration, even if the applicant’s name appeared in an earlier electoral roll. No legal action will be initiated against voters for submitting such applications.
The clarification comes after some voters became confused by a declaration introduced for the first time in Form No. 6, requiring applicants to state that their names are being included in the electoral roll. Voters whose names appeared in previous rolls but were missing from the current draft list were unsure whether applying afresh would amount to making a false declaration. (Pune News)
The Election Commission has clarified that eligible voters can submit Form No. 6 without facing any legal consequences. However, an important condition is that the applicant’s name must not already appear in the current electoral roll of Maharashtra or any other state in the country.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Government has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections during the electoral roll revision process. Citizens have until November 13, 2026, to submit their claims and objections after checking their names and other details in the draft electoral roll.
The claims and objections will be disposed of by November 25, 2026, and the final electoral roll will be published on November 30, 2026.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to eligible citizens, including those in Pune, to verify their names in the draft electoral roll and submit Form No. 6 through the prescribed procedure if their names are missing. (Pune News)
