Pune School Stabbing: Class 9 Girl Injured in Knife Attack by Male Classmate in Balewadi
A 14-year-old Class 9 schoolgirl was injured after being allegedly stabbed multiple times in the face and chest by a male classmate outside her classroom at a private English-medium school in the Balewadi-Mahalunge area of Pune district on Friday at around 2.15 pm. Her condition is stable, and she is out of danger.
School staff provided first aid before shifting the girl to a hospital in Baner. Police have recorded her statement as part of the investigation.
According to police, the attack followed a dispute during a school excursion to Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar on October 17 and 18. The accused boy had allegedly recorded videos and photographs of female students dancing during an event on the trip and posted them on his Instagram account without their consent.
Other students confronted him and pressured him to remove the post. Teachers intervened, and apologies were exchanged, following which the boy deleted the video. Police suspect he held a grudge over being forced to take it down and subsequently attacked the girl.
The accused, also 14 and studying in Class 9 in a different section, had joined the school the previous year. Police have designated him a child in conflict with the law.
The knife used in the attack has been recovered. Police are registering a First Information Report (FIR) for attempt to murder, and the minor has been taken into custody and remanded to an observation home.
The school administration has expelled the accused following disciplinary procedures. On-campus counsellors are assisting students, while the school has announced immediate safety measures, including mandatory bag checks for senior students.
