DPU Hospital in Pimpri Inaugurates Multi-Organ Transplant Centre, Reports 562 Transplants
Pune, October 23, 2026: DPU Super Specialty Hospital in Pimpri, Pune, inaugurated the ‘Yashraj Prasad Patil’ Multi-Organ Transplant Centre of Excellence on October 23, 2026, to strengthen advanced transplant care and improve access to specialised treatment for patients in Maharashtra and beyond.
The new centre at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre features a purpose-built, standalone facility with dedicated air-handling systems and specialised infection-control measures to provide a controlled clinical environment for transplant patients. The infrastructure is designed to support patients undergoing transplantation and those recovering after surgery, for whom infection prevention is particularly important.
DPU’s transplant programme has performed 562 transplants across multiple organ categories, including 261 kidney transplants, 100 liver transplants and 45 lung transplants. The programme has also undertaken complex procedures such as simultaneous kidney-pancreas, liver-kidney and heart-kidney transplants, as well as heart and combined heart-lung transplants.
The hospital has performed more than 50 heart and lung transplants over the past three years. The new centre is expected to strengthen its cardiopulmonary transplant programme, particularly for patients with end-stage heart and lung disease, severe respiratory conditions and other complex illnesses requiring advanced transplantation and critical care.
The centre will bring specialised transplant services, experienced professionals, advanced medical technology and critical care facilities together under one roof. The integrated approach aims to reduce the need for patients to travel between institutions for complex treatment and support continuity of care before and after transplantation.
DPU said the centre builds on its existing transplant expertise through collaboration with experienced professionals and established transplant specialists. It is expected to expand the hospital’s transplant capacity and volume of procedures in the coming years, with the long-term vision of becoming a Centre of Excellence for Advanced Transplantation in India.
The facility is also expected to support medical education and training by exposing medical students, postgraduate trainees and young clinicians to advanced transplant procedures, specialised critical care and multidisciplinary clinical decision-making.
Dr. P.D. Patil, Chancellor of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pimpri, said the centre reflects the institution’s vision of combining advanced medical infrastructure with accessible and affordable healthcare. He said the initiative aims to expand access to complex transplant procedures, provide learning opportunities for future medical professionals and strengthen transplant capabilities across the country.
Dr. Bhagyashree P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor of the university, said the institution was committed to ensuring that financial circumstances did not become a barrier to life-saving treatment. She said the centre brings together advanced infrastructure, specialised clinical expertise and a dedicated team to care for patients with complex organ failure.
Dr. Yashraj Patil, Trustee and Treasurer of the university, said the facility had been designed to address the needs of patients requiring organ transplantation, particularly those with end-stage heart and lung disease. He highlighted the importance of infection prevention and said the new infrastructure would help strengthen the hospital’s capabilities and expand its transplant programme.
DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, provides multispecialty and super-specialty healthcare to patients from India and abroad. The hospital has more than 2,000 beds and infrastructure spread across 9,77,757 square feet.
