Pune: Afghan Student Detained in Bavdhan For Overstay After Residential Permit Expiry
Pune, September 30, 2026: Pimpri-Chinchwad police detained a 26-year-old Afghan student in Bavdhan on September 28 after finding that his residential permit had expired.
Police said the process for his deportation was being carried out through Bavdhan police station and the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO).
The student, identified as Danyar Hussain, was traced to Pebbles Urbania society in Siddharth Nagar, near Bapuji Buva Temple in Bavdhan Budruk.
The Anti-Terrorism Branch (ATB) and FRO conducted the operation with help from Bavdhan police.
According to police, Hussain was a second-year MA Economics student at Modern College, Shivajinagar, but had been absent from college since January 2026.
Police said his passport was valid until June 26, 2027, but his residential permit had expired on September 21, 2026. They found that he had not received an extension and took him into custody.
The operation followed information from the FRO, which was checked through local sources and technical analysis.
Police also reminded those accommodating foreign nationals in rooms, bungalows, flats or hotels to submit Form C information to the FRO within 24 hours.
They said failure to report such accommodation would invite legal action and asked residents to inform the FRO or ATB about suspected unauthorised stays.
