Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Sunetra Pawar announced that a special Task Force will be established to streamline infrastructure development across Hinjawadi, Man, and Marunji to resolve long-pending civic bottlenecks in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park and surrounding areas
The decision was taken on Thursday during a high-level review meeting chaired by Sunetra Pawar to address severe traffic congestion, inadequate water supply, and lagging road projects caused by rapid urbanization and the continuous expansion of the IT corridor.
Officials highlighted that the region currently falls under multiple jurisdictions, including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Metro authorities, Public Works Department, MSEDCL, and local Gram Panchayats. The lack of unified execution among these bodies has repeatedly delayed crucial public works.
The newly proposed Task Force, similar to the existing administrative structure in the Chakan industrial belt, will act as a single coordinating body to ensure time-bound delivery of basic amenities and transport projects.
Priority focus will be given to accelerating land acquisition for bottlenecked road stretches and speeding up construction on the Maan–Shivajinagar Metro line. To address gridlock along main arterial routes, the administration is planning permanent structural enhancements at the Wakad flyover, major underpasses, and high-density junctions.
Water security was another important focus of the discussion, with officials stressing on a dedicated allocation of at least 2 TMC of water from the Mulshi Dam to meet the daily requirements of the growing residential and IT workforce population.
The action plan also outlines comprehensive upgrades to basic infrastructure, including smart CCTV installation, modernized traffic management systems, dedicated pedestrian footpaths, improved street lighting, underground drainage networks, and streamlined solid waste management.
To fund long-term structural fixes, officials announced plans for an urgent meeting with the Chief Minister to secure approval and quick release of funds for the comprehensive development plan prepared by PMRDA, estimated at approximately ₹426 crore.
Given the substantial growth in population, discussions were also initiated regarding the creation of an independent local self-government body for the Hinjawadi belt to ensure dedicated civic administration moving forward.
