PepsiCo India’s Pune Plant Completes 25 Years of Operations

Pune, August 18, 2026: PepsiCo India’s Pune manufacturing plant has completed 25 years of operations, with the company saying the facility has received more than ₹600 crore in investment since it was established in 2001. The 15-acre plant has grown into a key manufacturing hub with an annual production capacity of 62,100 tonnes, supplying snacks mainly to markets across western and southern India.

The facility manufactures Lay’s, Kurkure, Cheetos, Solid Masti and Uncle Chips and supports around 1,400 jobs through direct and indirect employment. The company said its operations have also contributed to the growth of local suppliers, ancillary businesses and the wider manufacturing ecosystem in Maharashtra.

Jagrut Kotecha, CEO, PepsiCo India and South Asia, said Pune has been a key part of the company’s growth in India and its second food manufacturing plant in the country. He said the facility’s capacity has increased six-fold over the past 25 years and has introduced several manufacturing and sustainability initiatives.

The Pune plant has been associated with a number of firsts for PepsiCo India, including the country’s first automated palletisation system and digital potato auto-grading technology. The company has also introduced water-recovery systems at the facility, which has operated as a Zero Liquid Discharge plant since November 2022.

PepsiCo said the plant works with hundreds of farmers in Maharashtra to source potatoes and other raw materials. The company has also promoted regenerative farming practices and achieved 100% micro-irrigation adoption across its dedicated potato-growing partner farms in key states, including Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Sustainability measures at the plant include sourcing 98.6% of its energy requirements from renewable sources. The facility has maintained Zero Landfill Waste status for six consecutive years and follows applicable Extended Producer Responsibility requirements.

The plant uses a Potato Moisture Recovery System to reduce freshwater consumption. Potato wash water containing starch is recycled into production, while steam generated during frying is captured, treated and converted into usable water. PepsiCo said these measures helped save nearly 255 million litres of water in one year, equivalent to the annual water requirement of around 1,300 households.

The company’s Sustainable Water Resource Development and Management programme in Pune is focused on water conservation and replenishment in partnership with local communities. The initiative covers six villages and benefits around 15,000 people, while supporting local capacity to manage water resources and achieving more than 100% water replenishment in the region.

PepsiCo said the Pune facility will continue to be part of its long-term manufacturing strategy, with a focus on local sourcing, employment, resource efficiency and sustainable production as the company expands its operations in India.
