Pune Airport to be Expanded Further; 300 Acres of Land to be Acquired to Build Facilities – Murlidhar Mohol
Pune Lok Sabha MP and Union Minster of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol announced that during his recent meeting with the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the matter of Pune International Airport Expansion was discussed.
An additional 300 acres of land will be acquired near the existing terminal of Pune airport at Lohegaon. The additional land will be used to build enhanced passenger and cargo facilities for the residents of Pune.
Though the land is to be acquired by the Airports Authority of India, but in order to expedite the acquisition, the state government will actively assist in the process. The state government will also provide 65 acres of land to Air Force in exchange for the 35 acres of land the Air Force owns near the airport passenger terminal. Mohol urged the Defence Minister to issue a directive to Indian Air Force in this regard so that the work can be expedited.
Meanwhile the land acquisition for Purandar International Airport is going on smoothly and progressing swiftly. If all goes well, Pune should be able to boast two international airports in the city, namely, Lohegaon International Airport and Purandar International Airport by 2029.
