A Grand Spectacle at Swaraj Dweep

Sri Vijaya Puram: The Andaman and Nicobar administration has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for unfurling the world’s largest underwater national flag. The massive Indian Tricolour, measuring approximately 60 by 40 metres, was deployed beneath the sea at the picturesque Radhanagar Beach in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island).

The meticulously planned operation was officially confirmed at 10:35 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026, when Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath presented the certificate to Lieutenant Governor D.K. Joshi.

A Collaborative Triumph of 200 Divers

The successful unfurling was the result of a tightly coordinated, multi-agency operation that required immense technical expertise and precision to deploy the large textile without damage.

“The achievement highlights the growing stature of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a destination for adventure tourism, marine activities, and globally recognised events.”

Participating Agencies: Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Police, and the Forest Department.
Special Participation: Lieutenant Governor Admiral (Retd.) D.K. Joshi was directly involved in the diving team, underscoring the administration’s support for sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.
Young Divers: Three school students—Fateh Jahaan Singh (16), Lavanya Eira (15), and Ranvijay Singh (14)—were among the participants, marking an inspiring contribution from the youth.
