Pune: PCMC Areas to Face Water Shutdown Tomorrow; Check Timings and Affected Areas
PIMPRI CHINCHWAD – Thousands of residents across the Pimpri Chinchwad industrial belt are advised to fill their buckets and tanks today, as the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has confirmed a major water supply disruption scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Evening Water Supply Suspended City-Wide
The PCMC Water Supply Department announced that the evening water supply across all parts of the city will remain completely suspended on April 28. This shutdown is not restricted to specific clusters but will affect every zone within the municipal limits.
Furthermore, the civic body has cautioned that the supply on Wednesday morning (April 29) is likely to remain irregular and may be provided at significantly low pressure. Normalcy is expected to be restored only by Wednesday evening.
Reason for the Disruption: Maintenance at Nigdi Plant
The primary cause for this scheduled outage is urgent civil and electrical maintenance work at the Nigdi Water Purification Centre. The facility, located at Sector 23, requires periodic repairs to its high-voltage electrical equipment and filtration units to prevent catastrophic failures during the upcoming peak summer weeks.
Chief Engineer Pramod Ombase stated, “Periodic maintenance and repair of the water supply system is essential to avoid larger disruptions in the city’s distribution network. We are undertaking these works at both the Nigdi centre and other regional-level facilities to ensure a robust supply chain.”
PCMC’s Advisory to Residents
With the city already under an alternate-day water supply regime, this additional cut could strain household reserves. The municipal administration has issued the following guidelines for citizens:
- Store Water in Advance: Residents are urged to store enough water on Monday and Tuesday morning to last through Wednesday afternoon.
- Judicious Use: Avoid activities that consume high volumes of water, such as washing vehicles or watering gardens, during the disruption period.
- Cooperation: The administration has requested patience as technical teams work to complete the maintenance within the stipulated timeframe.
Strategic Infrastructure Upgrades
This maintenance comes at a time when the Water Resources Department has already suggested a 15% reduction in usage across Pune and PCMC due to El Niño concerns affecting reservoir levels. By performing these repairs now, PCMC aims to minimize leakages and optimize the distribution of available water from the Pavana Dam.
