Pune/Hinjawadi, April 27, 2026: To decisively address chronic monsoon-related disruptions in the Hinjawadi IT hub, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched an accelerated action plan following a high-level on-site inspection led by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary.
Accompanied by MLA Shankar Mandekar and local representatives, Dr. Chaudhary conducted a comprehensive tour of the most affected areas, including Hinjawadi, Man, Marunji, Pirangut, Mhalunge, and Jambe in Mulshi taluka. The focus was clear: deliver permanent solutions to the traffic congestion and waterlogging that paralyze the IT corridor every monsoon.

“Citizens should not have to endure any distress during the monsoon; the administration is committed to this,” Dr. Chaudhary stated, setting the tone for a series of firm directives issued on the spot.
Key Decisions from the Inspection Tour
Drain Cleaning and Encroachment Removal: Officials were ordered to immediately clear all natural streams and drains in the region. Encroachments obstructing rainwater flow must be removed without delay to prevent flooding on major thoroughfares.
Road Development Expedited: A detailed review was conducted of critical road projects, including the connector road from the Mercedes showroom to Hinjawadi Phase-1, Laxmi Chowk, and the Nere-Dattwadi roads. Pending works are to be fast-tracked to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Drainage System Upgrades: Specific instructions were issued to prioritize and complete monsoon water channel projects at Nande Chowk, a known waterlogging hotspot. The Commissioner also called for enhancing the broader drainage line network to efficiently discharge rainwater.
Pride Road Progress: Dr. Chaudhary inspected PMRDA’s flagship ‘Pride Road’ project and expressed satisfaction with its current pace of work.

Relief for IT Hub Employees and Residents
With thousands of IT professionals and local residents facing annual commuting nightmares, PMRDA’s proactive, war-footing approach has been widely welcomed. From drain desilting to road repairs and fast-tracking pending infrastructure projects, the administration has signaled a clear shift toward readiness and accountability.
As monsoon clouds gather over Pune, these coordinated efforts aim to transform Hinjawadi from a flood-prone gridlock zone into a more resilient and commuter-friendly IT destination.
