Pune Traffic Alert: Major Diversions for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti
Pune, April 13, 2026: To facilitate the smooth flow of processions and ensure devotee safety on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Pune City Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic diversions across key areas of the city. These changes will primarily affect Pune Station, Aurora Tower (Camp), Vishrantwadi, and Dandekar Pool (Sinhagad Road).
Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), issued the notification under the Motor Vehicles Act, effective from the evening of April 13 through April 14, 2026.
Key Traffic Diversions
1. Pune Station & District Collectorate Area Heavy footfall is expected near the Ambedkar Statue at the Collectorate.
- Closed Routes: Shahir Amar Sheikh Chowk to Maldhakka Chowk; RTO Chowk to Maldhakka Chowk; and GPO Chowk to Bolhai Chowk.
- Alternative Routes: Commuters should use RTO Chowk via Jehangir Chowk or Nehru Memorial Chowk via Kirad Chowk.
- Parking: Designated parking is available at SSPMS Ground (near RTO) and Tukaram Shinde Parking (Pune Station).
2. Aurora Tower (Camp Area) Changes in the Camp area will remain in effect from 6:00 AM on April 14 until crowds disperse.
- Closed Routes: Nehru Chowk to Three Toap Chowk; traffic from Iskcon Temple Chowk toward Aurora Tower.
- Alternative Routes: Use Dr. Coyaji Road and SBI House Chowk.
- No-Parking Zones: Dorabjee Chowk to Aurora Tower and Aurora Tower to Naz Chowk.
3. Vishrantwadi Area Restrictions apply from 3:00 PM on April 14.
- Route Changes: Vehicles from Pune city toward Alandi/Bhosari will be diverted via Holkar Bridge and Khadki or via Golf Club Chowk and 509 Chowk.
- Restricted Entry: Access to Vishrantwadi Chowk from Sapras Chowk and Dhanori is restricted. Use Airport Road or the new bridge via Ganesh Nagar instead.
4. Sinhagad Road & Bajirao Road
- Dandekar Pool: Traffic from Swargate toward Sinhagad Road will be diverted via Savarkar Chowk and Mangi Baba Chowk to Asha Hotel Chowk.
- Bajirao Road: Traffic toward Shivajinagar may be closed as per necessity at Puram Chowk; commuters should use Tilak Road and Alka Talkies Chowk.
General Advisory
Public transport and private vehicles are urged to use the designated alternative routes. Emergency services, including ambulances, fire brigades, and police vehicles, are exempt from these restrictions. Traffic police personnel will be deployed at all major junctions to assist citizens and manage the processions.
