Pune Toll Revolution: New Real-Time Tracking for Hadapsar-Yavat & Chakan Highways to End “Toll Scams”
PUNE – In a massive crackdown on revenue leakages and “toll operator high-handedness,” the Maharashtra government has officially greenlit a sophisticated, tamper-proof toll monitoring system for Pune’s most congested industrial and transit corridors.
The new mandate, enforced by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), ensures that every single vehicle crossing the Hadapsar–Yavat and Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur stretches is recorded in real-time on a centralized government dashboard.
Direct Link to Government Control Rooms
Under the new protocol, private contractors operating toll plazas on these routes can no longer maintain independent, offline logs. Instead, their local servers must be integrated with the state’s monitoring cell.
“The era of data manipulation is over,” a senior PWD official stated. “As soon as a FASTag is scanned or a vehicle passes the boom barrier, the data, including the vehicle category and the exact fee collected, will flash on our screens in Mumbai and Pune. This data is encrypted and tamper-proof.”
Ending the “Permanent Toll” Menace
For years, commuters on the Pune-Solapur and Chakan industrial belts have alleged that toll companies underreport traffic figures to justify extending their collection contracts. By showing lower-than-actual traffic, operators often claim they haven’t recovered the “project cost,” thereby continuing to charge the public for years beyond the legal limit.
With the Hadapsar–Yavat elevated corridor (a ₹4,258 crore project) and the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur highway (₹4,207 crore) now coming under this digital surveillance, the government can track the exact day a project becomes debt-free.
Infrastructure Boost for Chakan and Hadapsar
The monitoring system arrives alongside major construction updates:
- Hadapsar–Yavat: A 31.5 km project featuring a 6-lane elevated highway designed to bypass the heavy local traffic of Pune’s eastern suburbs.
- Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur: A 54 km stretch critical for the automobile hub. The project includes a 4-lane elevated corridor to separate heavy industrial freight from local commuters.
What This Means for Commuters
While toll rates across Pune saw a 3-5% hike on April 1, 2026, this monitoring system offers a silver lining. It guarantees that the public’s money is reaching the state treasury and ensures that once the highway is paid for, the toll plaza will be dismantled without delay.
The cost of installing this high-tech tracking gear will be entirely borne by the private contractors, ensuring no additional burden on the taxpayer.
