PUNE – New technical details released by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) reveal that the upcoming Lonavala Skywalk is set to be far more than just a viewing platform. The ambitious project is being designed as a comprehensive “Adventure and Lifestyle Hub,” featuring a transparent glass walkway that offers a literal “walk in the clouds” over the Sahyadri valleys.
A Fusion of Thrill and Luxury
The project layout confirms a heavy emphasis on adventure sports and modern leisure. Visitors can look forward to a multi-sensory experience that includes:
- The Glass Experience: A signature transparent glass walkway and a massive 30-meter circular skywalk, designed to give tourists an unobstructed view of the depths below.
- Adrenaline Zones: For the thrill-seekers, the site will feature Ziplining, Wall Climbing, and a grand Giant Swing (Sky Swing).
- Cultural Hub: A massive 1,000-capacity amphitheater is planned for cultural performances, alongside a dedicated Walking Plaza and beautifully landscaped gardens.
- Leisure & Dining: The project includes a Rooftop Cafe, a dedicated Food Park, and strategically placed Gazebo seating areas for those looking to relax amidst the greenery.
Infrastructure Built for Scale
To manage the heavy tourist influx typical of the Lonavala region, the PMRDA has planned a robust infrastructure backbone:
- Massive Parking: A dedicated facility capable of housing 1,600 four-wheelers and 2,000 two-wheelers.
- Grand Entry & Safety: A magnificent entrance gate, integrated ticket counters, and high-tech security cabins.
- Public Amenities: Modern street lighting (LED) and comprehensive public restroom facilities.
Bridging Nature and Progress
Under the slogan “Nature and Progress in Harmony,” the PMRDA aims to create a “City of Dreams” within the valleys. The project focuses on high-tech safety standards while ensuring the aesthetic beauty of the landscape remains the primary draw.
By combining extreme sports with family-friendly leisure, the Lonavala Skywalk is positioning itself as a cornerstone of Maharashtra’s “Clean and Beautiful” tourism initiative.
