Pune: PMC Intensifies Anti-Encroachment Drive; 30,600 Sq Ft of Unauthorized Structures Demolished Across Pune
Pune, February 19, 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted a massive demolition drive on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Targeting unauthorized structures across Kharadi, Baner-Sus, and Hadpsar, the civic body razed approximately 30,600 square feet of illegal residential and commercial builds.
The operation, which began at 9:00 AM, focused on high-priority areas including the BDP Zone (Bio-Diversity Park) on the Baner-Sus road, as well as Chintamani Nagar and Dugad Nagar in the newly merged limits of Hadpsar.
Coordinated Action in Key Zones
The drive was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar and Chief Security Officer Dr. Ramesh Shelar. Unlike smaller sporadic actions, this was a highly planned and coordinated effort involving:
- Heavy Machinery: Multiple JCBs and departmental equipment were deployed to dismantle both temporary and permanent (RCC) structures.
- High Security: To prevent any law-and-order situations, a significant contingent of Pune Police personnel and Maharashtra State Security Force (MSF) jawans provided a security blanket.
- Strategic Planning: The administration targeted encroachment in ecologically sensitive BDP zones, signaling a zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorized urban sprawl.

Effective and Peaceful Execution
Official sources confirmed that the action was carried out systematically and remained peaceful throughout the day. The removal of over 30,000 square feet of illegal construction is being seen as a stern warning to developers and citizens violating building bylaws in Pune’s expanding suburbs.
The PMC has stated that such “comprehensive and planned” drives will continue in the coming weeks to reclaim public land and protect the city’s green zones.
