PUNE: In a significant move to align public infrastructure with local identity and commuter convenience, the Central Government has officially approved the renaming of three prominent Pune Metro stations. Simultaneously, Maha Metro has strengthened city connectivity by operationalizing a dedicated Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus stop at the Ramwadi Metro Station, creating a vital gateway for intercity travelers.

Pune Metro Station Renaming: Mandai, Nal Stop, and Ideal Colony Get New Identities

Following persistent requests from local representatives and social organizations, the Union Government has sanctioned the rebranding of three stations on the Vanaz-Ramwadi Aqua Line. The changes are designed to reflect the cultural and geographical landmarks of the respective areas:

  • Mahatma Phule Mandai Metro Station: Formerly Mandai Metro Station, the new name honors the legacy of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, whose historical ties to the Mandai area are deeply rooted.
  • SNDT Metro Station: Previously Nal Stop Metro Station, the renaming acknowledges the proximity of the iconic SNDT Women’s University, a primary landmark for students and residents.
  • Paud Phata Metro Station: Formerly Ideal Colony Metro Station, this change adopts the name ‘Paud Phata,’ which is the most widely recognized geographical reference for the local population.

Maha Metro officials confirmed that the process of updating digital maps, signage, and public announcement systems is already underway to ensure a smooth transition for daily passengers.

Ramwadi Metro Emerges as a Multimodal Hub for Marathwada and Vidarbha

Ramwadi Metro Emerges as a Multimodal Hub

In a major boost for intercity commuters, Pune Metro and MSRTC have collaborated to start a new ST bus stop directly beneath the Ramwadi Metro Station. This integration is set to revolutionize travel for passengers moving between Pune and eastern Maharashtra.

Direct Connectivity to Key Regions

All ST buses traveling toward Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), and the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions will now officially halt at the Ramwadi Metro Station. This facility applies to both outbound buses exiting the city and inbound buses arriving from other districts.

By allowing passengers to alight from intercity buses and board the Metro immediately, the initiative significantly reduces the “last-mile” struggle and helps commuters bypass the heavy traffic of the Yerwada and Viman Nagar stretches.

To further encourage the shift toward digital transit, Pune Metro has introduced a more accessible version of its travel card. The Non-KYC One Pune Card is now available at all station counters for a nominal fee of ₹59.

Benefits of the Non-KYC One Pune Card:

  • Zero Documentation: Unlike standard NCMC cards, this version requires no KYC verification, allowing for instant purchase and use.
  • Significant Fare Discounts: Cardholders enjoy a 10% discount on fares during weekdays (Monday to Friday) and a massive 30% discount on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
  • Queue-Free Travel: The “Tap-and-Go” feature allows users to skip long ticket queues at busy stations like District Court and Pune Railway Station.

With the expansion of the network and these new commuter-centric features, Pune Metro continues to solidify its role as the backbone of the city’s public transport system.
