After nearly 30 years, Pune is set to welcome double-decker buses once again. The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced that 25 new double-decker electric buses will join its fleet in January 2026. These buses will operate on five routes in the first phase, offering the same ticket fare as the existing electric buses.

Five Routes Finalized for the First Phase
According to PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore, the new double-decker electric buses will run on the following routes:

  • Dehu to Alandi
  • Magarpatta to Kharadi
  • Hinjawadi to Phase 3
  • Ramwadi to Pune Airport
  • Chinchwadgaon to Hinjawadi

Each of these routes will have five double-decker buses, making a total of 25 buses operating across the city by the end of January.

A Step Towards Sustainable Public Transport
The introduction of electric double-decker buses is being seen as a major step toward eco-friendly and modern public transport in Pune. The move will help reduce congestion on busy routes while providing more comfortable travel options for daily commuters.

PMPML officials confirmed that passengers will not be charged any additional fare for using these double-decker buses. The fare will remain the same as other electric bus services.

The initiative marks an important milestone in Pune’s efforts to modernize its public transport system and reduce its carbon footprint. PMPML’s plan aligns with the city’s broader goal of promoting sustainable mobility solutions.
