The effort, led by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), has already seen significant action in Hinjawadi over the past month. Officials report that a staggering 19 kilometers of illegal encroachments have been cleared, with road widening and new route proposals moving forward quickly.

This week, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase held a high-level meeting with officials from various government departments to review the progress. The message was clear: speed things up. Dr. Mhase instructed his teams to prioritize land measurements and acquisition to ensure these crucial projects don’t get stuck in red tape.

The review covered some of the most notorious traffic choke points, including the routes from Lakshmi Chowk to Wipro Circle, Marunji, and the Kolte Patil Gate. The focus isn’t just on main roads; officials are also assessing alternative routes in areas like Man and Marunji to create a more efficient network for commuters.

But the work doesn’t stop in Hinjawadi. Authorities have announced that starting next Monday, they will turn their attention to Chakan. A similar drive to clear illegal constructions and encroachments is planned to help smooth traffic flow in the industrial zone. The review also covered bigger projects like the Pune-Nashik elevated corridor and plans for new bypass roads around Chakan.

This coordinated effort, acting on directives from the state’s top leadership, brings together multiple agencies, from the MIDC and Water Resources to the National Highways Authority. For thousands of residents and professionals who brave these roads every day, these concrete steps promise a much-needed breath of fresh air.
