Pune: Fire Breaks Out in Guruwar Peth Society, 46 Residents Safely Evacuated

Pune, 3rd September 2025: A fire broke out at Zeba Shelters Society in Guruwar Peth early Wednesday morning, forcing residents to rush out of their homes in panic. The incident took place around 3:30 am when flames from the ground floor spread quickly after an electricity meter and a two-wheeler caught fire, filling the building with thick smoke.
The Pune Fire Brigade responded immediately after receiving a call at the control room. Within minutes, firefighters evacuated 46 residents and brought the blaze under control using water hoses. Thanks to their swift action, the fire was extinguished in just 15 minutes.
No injuries were reported. Officials suspect a short circuit to be the cause, but confirmation is still awaited.
Residents said the smoke created a frightening situation, leaving many trapped inside their homes until firefighters escorted them to safety. “It was a close call, but timely action averted a tragedy,” a fire officer said.
The operation was led by Officer Prashant Gaikar along with personnel Atul Mohite, Azim Sheikh, Sudhir Navale, Tejas Patel, Sagar Shirke, and Yash Virkar. Khadak police also reached the spot to review the situation.
Authorities have reminded housing societies to conduct regular electrical safety checks to reduce the risk of such incidents.
